After a vaccine was discovered, the building became a mental hospital. It was eventually shut down for abuse of patients, neglect, a rodent infestation, and unsafe surgical conditions.
The abandoned building was believed to be haunted, and ghost hunters broke in to experience the odd sounds and lights people claimed to see. But after a curious trespasser fell down an elevator shaft, the building was completely torn down. A playground was built on the site, and it may have inherited the ghostly activity: visitors say they've witnessed swings moving on their own and heard the sounds of children crying and screaming.Swings Move By Themselves In Dead Children's Playground

Matthew's ghost has been seen by students and teachers in the building, on the school grounds, and on the playground. The ghosts of two young boys who were lynched on the school grounds in the 1960s are said to have appeared as well.A Crying Woman Appears In Barnard Park
The little playground at Barnard Park in Fremont, NE, was once a cemetery. Ghostly apparitions have been witnessed roaming the area, include a crying woman. A male ghost sometimes appears on a park bench, and several of the surrounding homes are thought to be haunted as well.
Some locals believe that, when the cemetery was relocated, not all the bodies were removed. The unmoved remains could be the catalyst for the ghostly activity.
